Hello Beautiful, my name is MariLynn Powell, and I am owner and founder of The Hook and Needle, an online yarn store for all knitting and crochet enthusiasts. We offer Hand dyed Yarns, on animal fibers, where no two yarns look exactly alike, and other notions to help you accomplish your projects!

Our Story

I love knitting and crochet. It has been a form of therapy for me. I have been knitting and crocheting for over 15 years now. I thought to myself, "I need more yarn" and  "how may I accomplish this".

 I want to own a hand-dyed yarn company, to make my own colors and create whatever I want, when I want it.  So I trusted that instinct and began the process. I ordered in supplies and started dyeing yarn!

We have a trusted wholesaler who gets their bare yarn from a trusted mill in Peru!

It was difficult at first and I had a ton to learn, but I had a stubborn determination to make it work.

I worked as a cosmetologist for many years, off and on at La Bella Salon in Lindale. I felt change was coming , so I began looking for something to do with the opportunity when the change happened. 5 years ago I began getting ready for the new journey at hand. I wanted something that was mine and I could have for myself and my family! So I started The Hook and Needle business in Nov of 2019

With God at my side, It was time for the change to happen and was recently informed of the current owner of La Bella Salon was ready for retirement.  I then plowed full force into making The Hook and Needle  the absolute best hand-dyed yarn company I could envision. 

I combined my love of knitting, crocheting,  yarn dyeing, with my passion for business. 

My husband, George, is a math teacher and my main supporter along with my Son GW another supporter and model on the right for a sweater I knit for him when he was 5 years old. They both cheer me on and are my biggest supporters!  I have to also mention my Mom and Dad who are also wonderful supporters of this new adventure in my life! I Love you all very much and appreciate all of your support!

In 2023 we were able to start a business online in our home, where we continue today.

We take inspiration from the world around us and turn that into yarn colorways and blends for you, in the hopes that it brings more joy, more excitement, more color, and more creativity into your life.

We truly hope to leave the world a better place than we found it, and we choose to use yarn and craft as our medium!
